OVER-REACTOR

Announce “MOUTH OF THE GHETTO” Tour

“A crushing and polarising set from one of the most interesting and forward thinking heavy bands in Melbourne.” Billy Geary, Life Music Media

Melbourne’s death-hop masters, Over-Reactor are hitting the road to celebrate the release of their latest single Mouth Of The Ghetto. Mouth Of The Ghetto is also the title of their forthcoming album, due in the second half of 2012. Since recently releasing their first single and video, the band have received over 4000 views on Youtube and had three songs in the top ten on the Triple J Unearthed  metal charts.

Its two members, Ezekiel Ox (ex Mammal, Full Scale) and Cory Blight (ex Dukes Of Windsor), launched Over-Reactor eighteen months ago, and have already toured nationally with Karnivool, Front End Loader, Floating Me, and COG.

Comparatively, ARIA figures released in late February reported that the Australian music industry was worth US$411.7 million (A$382.7 million) after a 0.34% drop.

BEAT MAGAZINE ALBUM REVIEW: Over Reactor – Lose Your Delusion

22 May Front

I wanted to share this awesome review for OVER-REACTOR’s album ‘Lose Your Delusion’ featured in Wednesday’s Beat Magazine (written by Rod Whitfield). If you haven’t already heard it you can download it for free directly from the band’s website here: www.over-reactor.com/music

Over Reactor : Lose Your Delusion

This Melbourne duo certainly have a ‘throw everything at it, up-to-and-including the kitchen sink’ approach to making an album. Having fewer members to please and placate than the typical band, creatively Over-Reactor obviously simply let it all hang out musically, and do whatever they hell they want to do. The band, for the uninitiated, are Ezekiel Ox, the indomitable former frontman of the dearly departed Mammal (as well as other increasingly myriad musical and artistic projects), and Cory Blight, co-founder and drummer for Dukes Of Windsor.

Having said that, however, this album being a compilation of the most choice cuts from their first two records, features some of the more straight ahead rock, punk and metal tunes from those previous releases. ‘Straight ahead’, of course, being a relative term in this instance (as with most releases associated with Ox). The overriding vibe of this album is one of, quite simply, ‘rocking the hell out’, with a few tasteful moments of hip hop, electronic and goth thrown in. And, surprisingly, virtually all of it works a treat.

It also possesses a quirky edge, with songs about Doogie Howser and ‘Nu Metal Mortherfuckers’ and the political lyrical undertones are forceful, but at the end of it all, this is an album that will please fans of hard rock, flat-knackered punk and groove-based metal no end. There’s so much going on over the course of its 16 tracks, it’s hard to keep track of. Even The Living End’s Chris Cheney bobs up, shredding out bluesy lead breaks over the idiosyncratic groove of Something More.

Hell, even the title of this album is something of a piss-take, as well as an acknowledging play on words. The cover depicts bizarre scenarios featuring babies, robots and baseball bats. Over-Reactor are a band who know exactly what they’re doing, are very much doing it their own way, and don’t really give a shit who they might possibly offend doing it. Lose Your Delusion is an unconventional gem of a record.

Best track : The Chemical Sound

If you dig these, you’ll like this : The Aural Underground MAMMAL, It’s A War DUKES OF WINDSOR

In a word : Individual

Australian Musicians Co-Operative

20 Mar

We at GVP think this is an awesome resource for self managed, or starting out, musicians. Share the information and the love! And most importantly… it is FREE!

The Australian Musicians Co-Operative is a free service created by artists for artists with the aims of strengthening professional relationships between bands, reducing legwork and lifting the profile of independent artists and assisting the development of a unique and vibrant Australian music scene. Independent artists have a monumental task juggling all their writing, recording, admin, promo and live performances while still maintaining an income from another job. AMCO seeks to help streamline the extra-musical aspects of being a successful musician by sharing quality contacts, services and resources with each other rather than each band reinventing the wheel: We don’t all need to make the same mistakes and research the same things in tandem!

VENUE CHANGE – Over-reactor to play Caloundra instead of Maroochydore Thurs 17 Feb!

11 Feb

Just an update to let you all know that Over-reactor’s gig at Club Envy in Maroochydore will now take place at Kings Beach Tavern in Caloundra.

The band are terribly sorry for all of those located in Maroochydore who were planning on coming along, but it was the venue who cancelled giving the guys only one week’s notice (after they had spent $ on advertising and posters!!!). We at GVP are Not Happy Jan!

Anyway…. those of you up the Sunshine Coast way can catch death-hop duo Over-reactor on Thursday 17th February at Kings Beach Tavern in Caloundra.

Peace!

The GVP Team
